Hi folks,

After spending most of a couple of days digging through archives and
search engines, I haven't found an answer to this one yet...

There seems to be a bug where sound events don't work in Gnome. On
two separate systems I have installed MD 8.2, and confirmed that the
sound works through xmms and KDE. However Gnome sound events are
completely silent on both.

I'm basically wondering whether anyone's found a workaround or fix for
this yet?
I'd really like some sound in gabber!

Something I've noticed: Opening sound-properties in gnome control
panel, unticking "enable sound server startup", clicking apply,
ticking the option again, clicking apply makes the sound work -
briefly. Meaning if you go to the sound events and test one, it works.
However, it doesn't make any difference other than the 'test' feature,
meaning the apps still don't make any sound. Furthermore, as soon as
the sound properties dialog is closed, the sound stops working again.

Things I've tried:
Running as root
Updating esd to the latest cooker version
Updating gnome-control-center to the cooker version (the dependency
spaghetti made a complete mess of Gnome, and I ended up formatting)
Running sndconfig from the prompt in place of DrakConf
Playing with aumix

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
