Guess I'm Qualified. I've used 1.0 2.0 and 3.0 and intended to buy
4.0 soon (heavy discount for the upgrade right now)

Win4lin on does windows. 3.0 and earlier did 95/98 4.0 does ME
and 2000 as well (also I believe some XP support not sure.) Overall
other features in 4.0 make it worth the wait. (about a week maybe
less) DirectX is it's only shortfall as of 3.0 it doesn't do it. So
applications that run under DirectX don't work. Otherwise it's like
having windows in a window. Compared to VMWare it's much faster,
Much lighter in footprint and a lot cheaper. Full access sound,
It's own IP number. All hardware gets recognized (even my cd burner
but cdrecord is sooooo much easier) Screen res is limited of course
to the res of your Linux box and as such is a tad fuzzier than
windows native. 3.0 is limited to using 64 megs of ram but 4.0 goes
up to 128 (shared ram) Boot time is faster than with VMware and
waaaaaay faster than Windows native. Runs off of Ext3 Reiserfs and
Ext2 (the only ones I've used) and doesn't need a special DOS
partition. Follows symlinks. Setup is a bit tedious as first you
do it as root then you do it as User. Still can't multi task
windows.

Shortfalls - No directX support. Each user has to create thier
own Windows install (no shared access) Requires Windows. ScanDisk
Norton and other Utilities won't run since there is no "true" disk
partitions. Loads all the cab files onto your drive whether you want
it to or not. Not good for systems with less than 128megs ram.
