OK, still on pain killers, still trying to make this darn thing happen.
now I'm at the point where I've built the drivers for my linksys
wireless PCI (WPC11) and I'm ready to configure. the problem is, the
README assumes that I'm using another access point. I want my main box
to act as an access point and have my laptop connect to it. right now
I'm just trying to configure my main box.
here are the instructions in the readme, but as I scan them with blurred
vision, I don't see how this helps my situation.
< !------------
FOR PCI OR PLX USERS:
A) You must make sure that the drivers get loaded at boot time and that
the
necessary initialization takes place. The simplest way to do this is
to add the following commands to your rc.local file:
modprobe prism2_pci
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin ssid=<your APs SSID>
authtype=opensystem
ifconfig wlan0 <yourIP> netmask <yourNetmask> broadcast
<yourBroadcast>
route add default gw <yourGateway>
Also, don't forget to set up your resolv.conf to point at your DNS
server.
-------------!>
just for fun, I tried modprobe prism2_pci and got the following:
[root@localhost jason]# modprobe prism2_pci
/lib/modules/2.4.18-6mdksecure/kernel/3rdparty/prism2_pci/prism2_pci.o.gz:
init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
modprobe: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.18-6mdksecure/kernel/3rdparty/prism2_pci/prism2_pci.o.gz failed
modprobe: insmod prism2_pci failed
thanks for any wisdom you can offer.
