given that my /dev/sda5 is defnitely swap space why might i get the
following?:

[root@mycroft bascule]# swapon /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part5
swapon: /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part5: Invalid argument
[root@mycroft bascule]# swapon /dev/sda5
swapon: /dev/sda5: Invalid argument
[root@mycroft bascule]#

ever since i resized the swap space i am unable to activate it, also the
entry:
/dev/sda5 none swap
in /etc/fstab attempts to mount /dev/sda5 at the mount point 'none'!!

i think i'm being stuffed by this devfs stuff but i don't see how
