1. The rpm came from:
ftp://sunsite.uio.no/linux/Mandrake/Mandrake-devel/unsupported/8.2/i586/OpenOffice.org-1.0/
and has nothing to do with gcc 3.1 which has absolutely nothing to do with the problem.

2. Yes I did execute /usr/bin/ooffice didn't you see what I said in my prior
mail? 

3. Yes I did try OpenOffice.org-1.0-2.1mdk.i586.rpm prior to the 1.0-5 and
got the same result so I was hoping the newer version would fix it. NO
GO!!!

4. Yes I said F it and got the version from openoffice.org and it works
fine!
