OK! this may solve my problem as well... This matches my kernel ... now the question comes.... Does this mean that Mandrake has to build a new glibc for every older distro when 2.6 comes out? Or do they just never receive the benefit of a new kernel? Same thing for RH ... I know of a location with 3 2000 box clusters (yep they do monstrous calculations) and they are all RH 7.2. I don't mean to sound cynical or stupid.(never do but it often happens so I apologize.) But I just spent about 8 days editing code because one of our marketing people came up with a great idea for the names of the directories in the product. (No one will ever see or care... the idiot is a windwoze user any way. *grin*) Most of the trouble was the fact that I gave a hoot about backwards compatibility and even though our user base is small I'm a nut about making sure that we don't break anyone ..... anywhere..... anytime. Heck I even went to terms with the web people because you couldn't see the website correctly in 4.x Netscape. (it also wasn't w3c compliant then.... but by golly it is now!) So this is where my hesitation comes from. As our user base grows the number of Users with legacy systems that they can't "wipe and re-install" will grow. I upgraded a working 2.8 FreeBSD system the other day to 4.5 ... while running and except for the reboot time it never dropped a beat. Try that one with WindWoze. Backwards compatibility and data preservation is a must for all of us. James
