I installed the patch last night. There were some hunks rejected, but, on inspection, the rejected bits appear to duplicate code already in the kernel source. I compiled it up, and the vt8233a ide chip set is recognized. Drakopt no longer locks up my machine and I'm now able to get dma mode access to my disk drives.
