Hi,

This is a prob which left me without any idea. AND it keeps me away
from the shiny new 9.0 Beta!

PC w/ 80G harddisk.

cfdisk says (edited output):

hda1 prim VFAT 8,3 GB WinME (C:)
hda5 log VFAT 12,5 GB WinME (D:)
        log free 0,04 GB
hda6 log Linux swap 0,5 GB
hda7 log Linux Reiser 6,6 GB MDK8.2 (/)
hda8 log Linux Reiser 11,4 GB MDK8.2 (/home)

Rest of the harddisk is unused.

That was my starting point. Now I tried to install OpenBSD behind that
hda8. I installed it but made a mistake by forgetting the bootloader!
SO I let it be, promising myself to read some more docu about BSD
filesystems.

I wanted to delete the BSD partition and fired up fdisk in MDK 8.2:

------------------------------------------------
# fdisk /dev/hda
Warning: too many partitions (16, maximum is 8).

Command: p

16 partitions:
# start end size fstype fsize bsize cpg
a: 114527* 130780 16253 4.2BSD 1024 8192 16
c: 1 159560 159560 unused 0 0
-------------------------------------------------

I guess that's the output BSD-style. See the difference to the cfdisk
output? But what does it say? I know I made the BSD partition 16GB so
this must be 'a:'. And 'c:' must be hda1 - hda8 with Windows and Linux.

I did not dare to remove anything because I did not trust this. So I
put in my CD1 (9.0Beta2) and booted. I came to Diskdrake and it just
showed the Windows and MDK8.2 partitions, the rest was white territory.

So I created my partitions for 9.0 (hda9/10/11) and put the bootloader
in BR of hda9. Formatting and installation went without any probs
(smooth Beta.install, BTW).

I rebooted into MDK 8.2 and edited lilo.conf so I have another item in
the boot menue (added other=/dev/hda9, label=90, table=/dev/hda). But
when I started lilo I got an error:

   "Fatal: Partition not found."

I started cfdisk and got the same output as above plus the 3 new
partitions. Everything looks allright. I start fdisk /dev/hda and get
the same weird output as above, whining about the 16 partitions.

So lilo looks at the partition table like fdisk does. But why do I get
a different output in cfdisk and why do I get a different output in
Diskdrake during installation?

Of course I did not make a boot disk for 9.0 because I can always boot
into rescue with CD1 ... or so I thought.

I tried that and at the nice screen I punched F1 to get to the boot
prompt to enter 'rescue' but all I see is a nice lightblue screen with
nothing on it. So maybe rescue mode is not implemented yet in the Beta.

Final: I am lost. I posted this to the newsgroup (aolm) but did not get
any advice. So this is my last hope before I have to wipe my complete
harddisk to get the lost space back.
