Hi,

I just switched to Mandrake from RH.. I started off with the 9.0 beta-4
kernel and then rebuilt the kernel to include usb printing.

I see that there exists a /dev/usb/lp0 but printerdrake does not seem to
find a printer there though the printer is hooked on to the only usb
port I have on my 600E Thinkpad.

I tried "modprobe printer" and that does not give me anything back.
"insmod printer" says that "a module named printer already exists". So
looks like the printer module has been loaded. Then I tried "cat
/etc/modules.conf > /dev/usb/lp0" and this says:
"bash: /dev/usb/lp0: No such device"

The entry for /dev/usb/lp0 is as follows (using ls -la):
crw-rw---- 1 root lp 180, 0 Sep 3 09:18 /dev/usb/lp0

Any suggestions on what is going on? I used to have my printer working
fine with RH 7.3 and CUPS. Now with Mandrake and CUPS, I can't get it to
work. I have a Samsung ML-1210 laser printer and also have the ppd file
for cups.. this came with the printer's CD and did work with RH. Please
let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,
nirmal
(PS: please cc me since I am not on the list yet)
