Do a 'df -h'.  Chances are that your / partition is 100% full, which
means that xfs can't create the necessary files/sockets that it needs to
run.  Delete some files so that it's down below 95% used.  The reason it
is 95% is because regular users can only fill the filesystems up to 95%,
only root can go to 100%.  The X Font Server runs as user xfs, so the
regular user rules apply to it.
