Hello:

Just upgraded from Mandrake 8.2 to Mandrake 9.0 D/L edition. I am
starting up in runlevel 5 (X) and all of my GNOME apps, starting from
gdm right through to Nautilus, are not displaying any characters on the
desktop. The menu entries, the file folders and launchers on my
desktop, all of them just show icons without any text.

I have no idea where to start looking to solve this problem. Could it
be something wrong between GNOME and the font server (xfs)? Could it be
that somehow GNOME has chosen some kind of undisplayable font as its
desktop default?

If I start up, say, a gnome-term (I was able to guess from just the
icon), then the text *inside* the term is okay, it's just the desktop
and gdm and nautilus text that is missing.

I am not having any such problem with KDE, but GNOME is my desktop of
choice. Anyone else have this trouble with GNOME, or is anyone using it
successfully?

Thanks,
Dan
