Yes, most are winmodems, but I KNOW that some modems are hardware modems. The walmart.com PC's are hardware modems, but they use nonstandard IO and IRQ combinations. I wrote a script that (for that brand of modem) detects and configures the modem to work with Linux. You could probably take that script and very easily modify it to work with your modem. It is not an official MandrakeSoft script, but it works for the immediate need that we had. Blue skies...
