I have 2 hard drives.
hdb and hde
I boot of hdb, and have WindowsXp on it.
The first half of hde is an ntfs partition.
Mandrake 9 is on the second half of hde.
/ is on hde5
swap is on hde6

When installing mandrake, I opted to install lilo onto hde5 this always
worked in mandrake 8.x and so I assumed it would still work.
However when I did this, a dialog came up that never before existed.
It said that it recognised I was installing onto a partition, and asked
what drive I was booting off.

I'm not quite sure what this question means. Does it want to know my
what drive the whole system boots off, i.e. hdb or does it want to know
which disk linux is on, i.e. hde.
It gives me the choice to select hdb or hde.

I assume it means to select hdb.

But what does this question mean? What does it do? Does this have
anything to do with the fact that the boot loader I use no longer
recognises linux to boot it? (Following same procedures I always used
for Mdk 8.x no longer work).

This isn't a big deal, as I have a boot disc, and I'm happy to use it.
Just curious over this new question in the installation procedure.

thanks
