Todd, thanks for the reply, but no dice. I've tried numerous variations, but for the most part "cdrecord -scanbus" just hangs. My current modules.conf looks something like:
probeall scsi_hostadapter usb-storage probeall usb-interface usb-uhci probeall /dev/sg scsi_mod sg alias /dev/sg* /dev/sg (per a howto at http://www.linuxvoodoo.com/howto/HOWTO/SCSI-2.4-HOWTO/devfs.html although that suggests the probeall should have "scsi-host", instead of "scsi_mod". I tried "scsi_mod" and "ide-scsi", because "scsi-host" doesn't seem to exist on my system... Is there something else I can try?) I have two questions, if anyone will indulge me. 1) Do I need an alias/probe for ide-scsi. 2) Which module is better: usb-uhci or uhci? Also, if anyone has an external USB CD-RW working, I'd love to see what's in your modules.conf...
