I tried the newbie list and didn't get any response so I thought I might as well try here. I have done a lot of googling, IRCing and forum searching all to no avail. Anyway, here's the problem.
I recently installed Mandrake 9 final on my computer. A couple of days after the install I installed an atapi 250mb ZIP drive that used to be in this computer when it ran 8.1 and it worked fine. The drive does not work at all unless I edit lilo.conf and change the line devfs=mount to devfs=nomount then I can mount it by mounting /dev/hdb and it runs perfectly. If I start the system us with the 'devfs=mount' option I get the following entry in dmesg: -- hdb: IOMEGA ZIP 250 ATAPI Floppy, ATAPI FLOPPY drive -- Unfortunately, that is as far as it goes because I have no /dev/hdb -- [root@thunderbird root]# ls /dev/hd* /dev/hda@ /dev/hda2@ /dev/hda4@ /dev/hda6@ /dev/hda8@ /dev/hda1@ /dev/hda3@ /dev/hda5@ /dev/hda7@ /dev/hdc@ -- I don't know how to go about fixing this problem and quite frankly don't understand the ramifications of running the system permanently with the devfs=nomount option. Can anybody advise me as to what course of action I should take? Thank you, Colin Rose
