Title: RE: [expert] Mandrake 9.0 Questions
with question 1.. it seems to me that your channels are out of phase and are cancelling out the base..

try taking your speaker wires on one channel and swapping them around..

I used to see this alot when I was a fitter of Car Audio systems, alot of the new guys would setup systems that only sounded good when the balance was to one side...

and it was always phase cancelling..

There may be a way of swapping it via software, but i do not know what it is, so swapping the speaker wires around on one side will solve your problem.

let us know if it does.

Subject: RE: [expert] Mandrake 9.0 Questions

Hi Again,

First of all thanks Vox.  The help you gave was great.  But here are some observations I have found.

        1.  Sound.  I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem.  The problem I am having with the sound is an interesting one.  When the two sound channels (left and right) are the same volume, I get horrible tinny sound with no bass (the two channels seem to be cancelling each other out).  Take one channel volume higher or lower than the other (using alsamixergui), and the sound is crystal clear with plenty of bass.  This works with the PCM channels and the Master channels (the only ones I have tried).  Has anyone else had this problem?  I'm putting it down to an alsa problem, because I have never heard of this problem before.  Does alsa0.9-RC3 fix this or does anyone know of a better way to get around it?  I have a Videologic Sonifury Sound card (CS4630).

        2.  Openoffice.  I found the help as 'OpenOffice.org-help-en.rpm' and installed safely (thanks Vox).  But there was no 'OpenOffice.org-li0n-en.rpm' (the English dictionary) to be found.  Is the English dictionary installed by default or did someone forget to add it to the CD's?  If the English dictionary is installed by default, can someone tell me how to configure it.  Because the spell checker doesn't work and I can't do spell checking as I type.  This is bugging me.  If I get the Powerpack, obviously I won't have any trouble (StarOffice 6.0), but I want to show some other people how to use openoffice.

I'll say it again.  This is the best Mandrake yet!  I bought the Mandrake 8.1 powerpack, and that was a dissapointment for me (too buggy).  But I'm definitely getting the 9.0 powerpack to show my appreciation.  Thanks in advance for the above help.

Craig.

PS Sorry for taking so long to get back.  I have to do this through my work PC (windows only) which really stinks.  Damn corporates ;-).
