Thanks for the ideas Piero and john.  I checked the /etc/sane.d/dll.conf do not have 
files for my scanner.  I still think that it has something to do with the change to 
the Piero way of handling this device.  I haven't had the time to read up on how it 
works.  Looks like a project from the weekend.  Thanks again.
