ok, I apologize if there was something in the advisory that I missed.. I was
doing it remotely, and over a slow link to boot.. (incidently, the link you
gave me didn't work for me.. (page cannot be found.))

as a result I didn't read it as I normally do..

I did see this however, which is why I tried it.

Upgrade:

To upgrade automatically, use MandrakeUpdate.

If you want to upgrade manually, download the updated package(s) from one of
our FTP server mirrors and upgrade with "rpm -Fvh *.rpm".

I was under the impression that kernels and related, and filesystem and
devfs stuff were the only ones you had to watch out for when updating. thats
why I didn't really think it was going to be an issue.

This box has been running since 7.2 first came out, it is not running
anything other then Amavisd and standard mdk7.2 packages, and kernel-secure
2.2.19

as for the apache packages, they were also the updates from MandrakeUpdate.
and there were no equivalent newer apache updates available when I updated
php.

I can't tell you the package versions due to the fact that I have since
removed the lot.

I'm wiping the box and putting 9 on from scratch.

I had to do it sooner or later anyway.. so might as well bite the bullet.

Did you read the advisory first? Probably not, otherwise you wouldn't
have had this problem.

Because you didn't install it properly. Go to MandrakeSecure, look at
the 7.2 rpms listing, and find the last apache update. Follow the
instructions. It's not meant to go through rpmdrake.
