Have you installed emu10k1? emu10k1 is on one of the disks, along with all the 
alsa buttons and bells that are (IMO) overly complex. If you didn't install 
the driver yet you'll never get anywhere. I've done the same thing with that 
exact card while upgrading systems for a couple of friends, and for my son. 
Once. :-)

You've already done the hard-drake thing so once you install the driver you 
should be set. It will probably require a reboot, or you may be able to use 
the Mandrake Control Center>System>Services to start sound if you're into GUI 
tools. Especially since you'll probably be in there to install the driver.
