My 2 sons comps dual-boot Windows 98SE and Mandrake. I just leave Samba
turned off and do a:
service smb start
whenever I actually do want to let them see me. This works great. When we
finished file-copying (or whatever) I just do a:
service smb stop
and they are locked out from my machine again, and they or I can shut down
cleanly whenever we want.
I don't know about XP though...
