what is your setup??

I am using static-routes successfully...

used netconf to set them up the first time (its part of linuxconf)
so I could see the format, then went nuts and added all my own routes
manually..

worked great.. if you look in the network startup scripts, you will see
where it looks for the static-routes file and loads it if it exists.... so
it does work.. (at least it does on mdk9.0, never used it before that.)

file  /etc/sysconfig/static-routes and add routes on linux ?
