Todd,
I have the stock Mandrake kernel installed, with the USB items as modules. As 
I said, I can't get it to work. I guess I need to know the correct procedure 
to load the modules.

In the KDE control center, you can choose the Canon G2 camera (also in 
gphoto2), but I can't get any further because I apparently don't have usb 
loaded or installed correctly. To my mind, there must be some 1,2,3, commands 
to accomplish this, and that will work with any of the supported cameras in 
these applications.
