I have a nine machine.. and just as a test.. I installed CGI::Session and
HTML::Template on it..

They both went just fine.. (I have a script that uses both running on it
now.)

The modules sometimes have to be modified for 5.8, it ususally states if its
5.8 ready in the docs somewhere.. (or the search.cpan.org summary screen.)

Does mandrake have rpm's of the modules you want?? what about contribs? or
plf.. exhaust your rpm options first..

what modules are you having trouble with?

Subject: [expert] perl 5.8.0 is broke on mdk 9 ?

perl runs ok, but I have been unsuccessful in installing ANY CPAN module.
i know how to, it is just that for one reason or another the modules never
compile, and stuff it ought to be able to find it doesn't.

Should I just uninstall the perl rpm and then install perl from perl.org?
