This is an answer rather than a question. I hope that in posting this others will not have to search for the answer as long as I did ('bout 2-3 hours).

It is the kind of thing that seems tough but is actually so simple that one winds up second guessing and spending the above mentioned time trying to research the answer when it is stareing you right in the face. ;-)

So you just got a Samba PDC set up, see, and you log in for the first time on an XP box and you get logged in fine but you get a pop-up notepad window with something that looks like this in it:

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787

This is not an error. This is a text file in the Startup section of your Start Menu. It is being auto-executed on logon and as a result a notepad window opens.

The local fix is to simply delete the file.
Go Start | All Programs | Startup and right click on the file and select delete. That simple.

I am not sure if Samba is createing this file or if XP is. Does anyone out there know and if so is there a way to keep it from being created?
