Also, the LWP and Tokeparser perl modules could help you download and stip
the HTML... its what they were designed for.

go to search.cpan.org and look for them.

Would converting from HTML to text also do the job? If so, consider

  lynx -dump

or any other tool (w3m, links, ...) which provides similar
functionality.
