Wild shot in the dark here. cd /lib mv i686 i686.nouse ldconfig Then see if it still does it (probably requires a runlevel change, maybe even a reboot). This will make it use the i586 optimized glibc instead of the i686 optimized glibc. Good luck. Blue skies...
