[expert] Stand-alone Firewall

Can anyone point me towards a HOWTO that will allow me to set up a box without a hard drive as a stand-alone firewall for my home network?
I have an old K6-III box I want to use for this. I figure I'll create an OS and firewall on a cdrom and leave it at that.
