        I tried boot linux with acpi=off and modem worked!!!
        With pci=noacpi => modem didn't work.

        Hope your tip works for me.  I try it latter at home.

        BTW, if I put insmod at, e.g., /etc/rc.local it should start modem
modules automatically, shouldn't it?

        Moreover, I installed pctel stuff compiled by my own in MDK 9.0
and it worked without problems.  Apparently, same happened to MKD 9.1, I
can even see them with lsmod and link appears at /dev/modem.

        Thus, I still believe it is a ACPI issue but I'll try your
formula.
