Just moved up to 9.1,,,nice :))

Is there anyone will to assist me off line setting up samba, the setup
using SWAT looks OK, but I cant get the windows (2000) machine to see
the printer or files on the linux machine.

Had a similar problem running v9.0 with most recent samba. Couldn't get the win2k machines to see the mandrake server acting as PDC. I appreciate that you are only trying to hook into a workgroup environment but there were a couple of things that I found helpful.

1. Win2k seems to "hold" on to its IP rules/config in network settings. If you have changed your win2k machines IP recently try completely changing ALL of the machines IP/subnet etc. settings and rebooting changing and then setting them how you want them......just don't ask why this works cos I have no idea.

2. Also found that with samba as PDC - having "use Lmhosts" ticked in the advanced WINS settings tab of your ip connection properties on your local area network connection on your win2k machine also caused problems finding it.

3. Finally on mandrake 9.0 with security set at "higher" although the firewall was allow all (don't do this at home kids) I couldn't access the machine - with security reset to "high" I could access stuff fine. Again no idea why this should be the case (this is my first foray into the world of linux).

note: I know this is bad security but it is on a local network over cat5 and with two firewalls to the outside world.
