URPMI to the rescue... if you are running 9.1 type at the command line

 urpmi.setup.  

This will allow you to setup your updates section then from the command
line type

urpmi --update --auto --auto-select 


and come back in a bit and all will be updated ... except the kernel...
to get it type urpmi --update kernel  and it will correctly install the
kernel.
