Thanks for the info.  Before I got your post I did some digging around
on the Mandrake site and came across this page. 

http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/kernelupdate.php

It said to do -  urpmi kernel-2.4.19.32mdk 

It installed the kernel and after a reboot: uname -a indicates that it
is the running kernel. 

Does urpmi --update kernel do anything different?
