Sorry but I didn't think my first message had gone out.
I looked into your suggetion but I could only find the
Mandrake source for kernel 2.4.18 not 2.4.21
Also the path to these sources was nothing like in the example.
most of the sub-directorites didn't exist anyway.
I appreciate this is not your fault and thank you anyway.
I will try to get the correct kernel source and set up the 
Makefile to use the ones I find and then take it from there.
