Did you run "depmod -a"?
Also, about that "alias..." line in modules.conf. I don't have that here. Mine
says:
alias char-major-195 NVdriver
and /etc/modules has:
nvidia
also, in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, do you have Driver "nvidia" listed under
Section "Device"?
