I have a very similar situation (lots of MDK boxes cross-mounting NFS
directories) and my NFS options are:
rw,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,hard,intr
Once I migrated to these options, my problems with boxes hanging on
"df" ended. The options basically mean, that if a server goes down, all
the proccesses accessing the directory receive an interrupt, usually
meaning that they die. But they do not hang. And if the server comes
back up, the mount magically starts working again, with no additional
action on the client needed.
Also, if You are mounting home directories by NFS, I would suggest
adding the "nolock" option.
Cheers,
Adam
