Check to see if you are using the same printer driver when printing the envelopes. It sounds to me like you are using another print driver. I use cups and one print driver to get the half tone another cups driver to get the full ink application, and LPR/LPRng for full deep colour ink application. So I actually set up three different printers in the configuration of OO.o So I imagine that OO.o is using another print driver for your envelopes.
