I don't know if this is a question for the newbie or expert list, but I'll try on this one.

Currently, I have problems with my ISP DNS servers (they are unreachable more than half the time). I'd like to build a DNS server on my computer so I'll be able to use my Internet connection efficiently. To resolve my problem, this DNS server must forward to a parent DNS (other than my ISP's... is it possible to use root DNS's as forwarders?)

I don't have a domain name (I'd like to have a local zone and all other things going to forwarders). Is my solution possible under Linux (I know it's possible under M$ LooseDows Server's DNS service.) If it's possible, where can I find informations about this, or what tool can I use to define my zones?

BTW, I'm running Mandrake 9.0 on the machine I'd like to use, and I'll "upgrade" it to 9.2 as soon as it's stable.

Thanks for your help and advice.
