Check also if you have the xmms cd plug-in installed. For older distributions it can be difficult to find any updates or packages from the usual download sources. I still have the list of most of the packages for it in old e-mails I've archived though. I'm amazed they still work though. 8.2 support is dead as far as I know, or soon will be.
