Then I was correct. Try instead: urpmi.removemedia cooker-updates And then (all one line, of course): urpmi.addmedia --update cooker-updates file://mnt/mandrake/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz And see if the GUI update tool now works as you'd expect it to.
