Not so much *need* both, but it would be nice if the module could do either... Going by the fact that the manual refers to "... I/O address id set to 300H...", I assume that the cars is port accessible rather than memory mapped. If I'm wrong, I have to re-compile it. 2 or 3 rebuilds in 2 days is a bit myuch... > > >> > - You could also search the archives of the Sane mailing list, as sane >> > is the scanner software used on Linux. >> >> The Sane backend is installed on the system. I went to the local computer market Sunday with that purpose in mind. One vendor there had a couple of the accessories for my scanner, and is also a Linux user... From what he said, it appears the Umax Vista range won't function properly with a standard SCSI card. My experience so far seems to re-inforce that... I also took a look at the Umax site. No help at all... Even their web servers are IIS... > > Cheerio, > > Thomas Ultimately, I've decided to return it to the place of purchase. I have a Canon FB330P working on a different machine, and I can access that from the network. Since it's physically only 2 metres away..... Thanks for the assistance. I'll probably look at getting another scanner anyhow, so long as it has a better resolution than 300 dpi, and it will probably be a SCSI based unit (they're dirt cheap at the second-hand shops), so this discussion will be of use later... -- Alex Fisher OpenOffice.org Marketing Project Community Contact, Australia
