Soyo Dragon Ultra Black KT400 ( 1  below the Platinum IIRC).

no, i haven't:  512 MB  of DDR400 .

my guess is that something has been changed on the mobo,
which is creating a difficulty for the (existing) Linux installation,
which didn't occur with the previous (obscurely defective) mobo.
my 1st thought was 'let's just re-install Mdk 9.1',
but then i got sidetracked when it didn't boot from the CD drive.

any further thoughts are very welcome: i'll be asleep today
& will have another session of testing tonight,
when i will test the CD-boot & mount questions.
