found my old Descent2 Destination Quartzon CD that came with a STB Nitro 4mb PCI video card... kinda scratched, but looked readable.
urpmi d2x. Installed the DOS game in VMware (I've since read that unarj could unpack the HOG file). Copied the install to /usr/local/games and symlinked that to /usr/share/games/descent2. Had to lowercase the names, so I put this in a script: #!/bin/sh for i in * do j=`echo $i | tr '[A-Z]' '[a-z]'` mv $i $j done and ran ls | ~jack/bin/2lower.sh Got stuck for a while with "Error: Couldn't load pcx file 'descentb.pcx', PCX load error: Error opening file", but Googled and found that I could just make a 640x480x256 image in pcx format for that file and menub.pcx. Did so with Gimp, and then ran soundwrapper d2x-gl and I was playing Descent2 again. Woohoo!!!! -- Jack Coates Monkeynoodle: A Scientific Venture...
