Hey Hay,
I'm sorry I didn't get back to this - I didn't catch your reply til just this morning 
(I'm in and
out quite a bit).  I don't know if you got your answer or not, but yes, it does show 
all the
processes that will fit on my root window.  At first the default was only showing my 
own
processes, but I played with the geometry settings and I got the same information 
spread out the
way you did, then I stopped it and restarted it and it fixed itself.  I created the 
fifo as
instructed, then I put together this little diddy and stuck it in $HOME/bin.  Call it 
whatever you
want.

#!/bin/bash
top -b >> .top-output &
root-tail -g 155x47+50+50 -f -color rgb:00/aa/ff .top-output

It seems to do the trick for me.  My laptop res is 1024x768.
