I booted from the cd, installed Mandrake 9,1 and when the installation was finished I rebooted. During startup I could see the error message that lilo could not locate fb0.

Sounds like it's trying to boot from a floppy...how did you do the
install, did you boot from a CD?
It might be a problem with LILO, try booting from the CD and hit F1 to
configure LILO to boot from the HD.
I don't think it's your display adapter.
