Nope, not that sorry, that's a KDE facility for configuring what mounted/unmounted file devices like CD's and floppy's get displayed on the desktop by KDED (which I have disabled anyway). I'm meaning when I turn on my scanner, an icon for XSane pops up on the desktop linking directly to the scanner device. I believe it has something to do with devfs and hotplug and is something Mandrake configures in a script somewhere. Thanks anyway. John.
