hi everybody,

strange thing are happening on my box.
i'm running mdk 9.1.

i wanted to reboot about an hour ago, because i the system had problem with
starting new applications (a java app with gui, or the software installer).
while shutting down, the "logout" box of KDE didn't contain any letters but
only
box-shaped characters.

i then halted the system.
after booting, it didn't start an X server...
i've foudn out so far that things like drakconf, smb and XFree86 (the binary
in
/usr/X11R6/bin) are suddenly missing...

how could such a thing happen?
i sure didn't do anything like deleting this stuff.
could missing dependencies have such dire consequences ? i doubt it, but.. ?

and i didn't force an install that had missing dependencies... the only
thing i can
remember is having installed libpng-1..something over/or replacing linpng3.
but that was several reboots ago and the system still worked fine.

is there a linux virus deleting random stuff on the drive?

please help!
thanks in advance

lukas
