All that I'll add to this is that it's not entirely clear from the wording 
of the initial question whether or not the printing being done is local 
or remote, and if it's remote, whether we are dealing with Linux->Linux, 
Linux->Win, or Win->Linux.

James's answer covers local and Linux->Linux situations nicely, and the
printerdrake app should be able to set CUPS up properly in like manner
when adding a remote printer that is being shared from a Win box, but jobs
being sent from a Win box to a Linux-connected printer are different. They
are processed by Samba, and there are two ways to set this up: have the
Win system(s) install and use the appropriate Win driver for that printer,
or have Samba use the CUPS driver and set up the Win system(s) to use the
"Generic Postscript Printer" driver.

Once you decide which method is best for you, you need to use the correct
"print command" entry in /etc/samba/smb.conf to implement your choice. See
the relevant comments within that file for more on this.
