Hi Not much reply on my last mail, so I had a chance to do some tests myself.
I activated Swedish keyboard, and used Ö, ö and ä. Everything looked very nice in F-Spot, but when I checked the photo itself, or tried to import the XMP tags with the XMP import tags patch it sure did not look ok anymore. How to check/verify. 1) Start with a clean database 2) Import one photo 3) Set the titel to "Detta är en öl-flaska" 4) Tag it with "Öl" 5) Copy the photo to /tmp Select * from tags --> gives Öl as a tag. Eye of Gnome --> UserComment : Invalid size of entry (66, expected 58 x 1). strings <photo> --> Do not see any comment, and Öl tag is replaced by <cr>l Carefull examination of strings gives me the following: @IMG:PowerShot A530 JPEG Firmware Version 1.00 Unicode 0100 I tried on another photo, with an english text Firmware Version 1.00 ASCII This is a bottle 0100 6) Delete the photo from F-Spot 7) Import the just copied photo from /tmp 8) The tag is called "\u00D6l" where \u00D6 is Ö I guess 9) The comment is "Detta 'u00E4r en 'u006fl-flaska" 10) Metadata browser gives the same result. 11) The console gives the following output (debug printouts) Have adobe usercomment = >>Detta \u00E4r en \u00F6l-flaska<< Have keyword = >>\u00D6l<< So, what am I missing to get F-Spot to be fully international? I hope it is something very easy I am missing here... My locale just in case it helps...
