that's quite odd. f-spot uses ~/Photos folder as temporary folder for 
importing, so it's quite strange that you find files in your home...

because importing doesn't mean copying! 
while importing f-spot performs some operations on the pic, like duplicate 
detection and inserting photo properties into the db.

usually when it finds a picture with the same name a "-1" copy is created. can 
you reproduce this case and post a f-spot --debug output of the error?

helping with those few informations doesn't seem possible.
