I wrote an extension for this (Checking for photos in filesystem and not in DB, or photos in DB but not on filesystem, or photos in wrong directory (not proper YYYY/MM/DD directory). This one should fix it easily for you.... but for one thing, I have not updated it, and I think Maxxer was working on it to get it up to date some time ago. Sorry this is the only suggestion I have for the moment.
