Jay, At last year's Summit Point National, I was running along with relatively low EGTs - somewhere around the 1100-1150 range, IIRC - and had a piston burn through with no warning. I still have the data runs from the session where it happened; one side went from cold to WAY hot in about three pulses. The jetting I was running was EXTREMELY conservative and was actually richer than I normally run (it was the first event of the year, and the air was pretty heavy). After I replaced both pistons and the top-end gaskets, it ran the rest of they year with no issues. I never could fully explain it, but my guess is that there was either an intake manifold leak or a clogged jet. At the 2004 Watkins Glen National, I had a water pump failure that ended up burning down the engine - a total loss. Granted, an ill-timed full-course yellow made matters worse, but.... Am I just terminally unlucky, or does this sort of thing happen to other guys? ________________________________ FormulaCar Magazine - A Proud Supporter of Formula 500 The Official Publication of Junior Formula Car Racing Subscribe Today! www.formulacarmag.com or 519-624-2003 _________________________________ _______________________________________________ F500 mailing list - [email protected] To unsubscribe or change options please visit: http://f500.org/mailman/listinfo/f500 *** Please, DO NOT send unsubscribe requests to the mailing list! ***
